Heat pumps not necessarily the cheapest solution

Geothermal heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps are connected to the central heating system of the house and distribute heat and hot water. Air-to-air heat pumps only produce warm air.

Heat pumps
If you choose an air-to-air heat pump system you should research the market carefully. Choose an energy efficient pump with automatic control. This allows you to control the temperature and indoor environment by using a remote controller for example.

The Trust recommends air-to-air heat pumps for second and holiday homes. Geothermal heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps are recommended for houses that are used all year. See list of heat pumps that are suitable for the Danish climate here (only in Danish).

Features that you should insist on when you install a heat pump

  • High efficiency and reliability in the Danish Climate.
  • Quality that lives up to the stated requirements.
  • Ability to obtain heat of a low temperature in cold periods, for example via geothermal systems (in winter), with the ability to distribute heat at as high a temperature as possible, e.g. via underfloor heating (underfloor heating systems must be compatible).
  • Ability to provide your combined heating and hot water requirements, thereby minimizing the need for supplementary electric heating and a separate hot water heater.
  • Installation and inspection by qualified technicians. This ensures optimal operation and the safe handling of the refrigerant.
