Facts about large appliances
The Trust produces product overviews covering professional fridges and freezers with the focus on energy efficiency. These can help you to reduce your electricity consumption by 50%.
Product overviews are tools for purchasers
The overviews help purchasers of professional fridges and freezers to focus on energy consumption, and make it easier for them to choose the most energy efficient appliances. The overviews have been compiled together with the commercial catering equipment sector, including some of the biggest producers and suppliers of professional fridges and freezers.
No energy labelling for professional large appliances
Currently there is no compulsory energy labelling scheme for professional large appliances. The Trust and the commercial catering equipment sector have therefore established their own energy efficiency requirements to which appliances must conform in order to feature on the overviews.
Listing procedure for appliances
Producers and importers need to apply to have their appliances listed. They must also supply a test report documenting that the Trust’s requirements have been fulfilled.
Random testing of appliances
The Trust carries out random testing of appliances. If any product does not fulfil the requirements it will be removed from the overview immediately.
Refrigeration equipment must be energy efficient
The requirements have been set so that only around 25% of the refrigeration equipment on the market is capable of complying with them.
50% energy savings
Tests in commercial catering premises show that energy consumption can be cut by more than 50% by switching from conventional appliances to modern, energy efficient equivalents.
The extra cost of investing in an energy efficient appliance is therefore quickly recouped, and the savings will continue annually thereafter.
