Audit your system
The Trust has produced a spreadsheet that makes it easy to audit your existing lighting system.
The diagnostic tool is simple to use, and you only need to input a few details about your old equipment.
Using the diagnostic tool you can:
- Check what it costs to continue using your current lighting, and find out how much you could save with a new lighting system.
- Calculate the economics of investing in new lighting over 10 years. The tool uses standard prices for a low-cost and a more expensive system. But you can also input your own figures if, for example, you have already received a price estimate.

To use the diagnostic tool, the settings in Excel for Macro Security should be set to medium or low. You can do this as follows:
- On the ‘Tools’ menu, click ‘Macro’. Then click ‘Security’.
- Click the Security Level tab, and then select the ‘Medium’ (recommended) or ‘Low’ security level.
- If you have selected ‘Medium’ then you need to select ‘Enable Macros’ when opening the file.
