Modern lighting systems are daylight controlled

New generation lighting systems can halve your electricity consumption and provide better light.

Why have the lights blazing when daylight is streaming through the windows? Of course it’s usually because the light from outside is often not sufficient and you therefore have to switch the lights on and off. At least that is what happens with old light fittings.

New generation lighting systems actually automatically increase and decrease the ceiling light in relation to the amount of daylight coming in through the windows. It’s called daylight control. This ensures that there is good light, because there is no doubt that daylight provides the best light quality, without using any electricity at all.

Half the electricity consumption
This new technique combined with the new types of fitting mean that lighting systems are able to operate on half the amount of power, and provide better light.

Daylight control works with the help of light sensors and electronic control. The electronics also provide additional benefits: The lights are more stable with no noise from the ballasts, and provide more light for the amount of power used.

New systems provide other benefits
There are other benefits associated with new lighting systems:

  • They have movement sensors that automatically switch off the lights when the last person has left the room.
  • Fittings are very efficient, so they project more of the light from the fluorescent tube into the room than the old fittings.
  • Fluorescent tubes are more efficient than the old types of tubes.
  • Lighting systems conform to specifications laid down by the Trust in relation to:
    - lighting intensity
    - colour rendering
    - dazzle factor
    - efficiency of fittings
    - maximum electricity consumption
  • There is a wide selection of fittings available in different designs, so there should be something to suit every taste and room type.
