Motion and dusk sensors
Motion and dusk sensors, and clock timers switch lights on and off when there is movement, when it gets dark, or at set times.
Switch on when it gets dark
Motion sensors are ideal for stairs, passages and halls, utility rooms, basements and for use outdoors, for example in the carport.
A dusk sensor switches on the lights when it gets dark. Most motion sensors can be set up so they only switch on when it is dark.
You can use a clock timer if you want to have your lights come on at set times.
Check that the control device can be used with A-rated energy saving bulbs
When you buy a motion sensor, dusk sensor and clock timer for your bulbs, check that they are compatible with A-rated or other energy saving bulbs. This information is normally shown on the packaging. Ask your supplier if not.
Using a control device with A-rated energy saving bulbs, even though this is not recommended, can damage energy saving bulbs in time.

You can save a lot by installing automatic control of your lights so that they only come on when you need them.
Check the power consumption of your sensors
Remember that motion and dusk sensors consume small amounts of electricity (power used by the sensor itself) – including when the lights are off. This standby loss should not exceed 1 watt (preferably under ½ watt) per sensor.Consumption of 1 watt for the 8,760 hours in a year will add around EUR 2 to your electricity bill.
Savings achieved by using a sensor to switch lights on and off should ideally be somewhat comparatively greater to make it financially worthwhile, but this is often the case.
