A-rated bulbs can be used in most locations in the workplace
You can use A-rated energy saving bulbs almost everywhere. You should only keep your tungsten filament bulbs or any halogen spots in places where you need particularly good colour rendering. For example, this could be above the toilet mirror and in the office canteen or lunch room.

A-rated bulbs come in different shapes and sizes
You can get oblong energy saving bulbs or round versions with a mantle that look like ordinary tungsten filament bulbs. Base your decision on whether or not you can see the bulb when it sits in the light fitting.

A-rated bulbs can be used everywhere outdoors
A-rated bulbs are the natural choice for outdoor lamps: in garages, driveways, along paths, entrance doors. These places are also suitable for LEDs.

A-rated bulbs affected by frost
When the temperature falls below freezing, it can take a little time before A-rated energy saving bulbs light up. Also, the light output that you get from an energy saving bulb depends on the type of lamp the bulb is fitted in. There are rarely problems if the lamp is fully enclosed. On the other hand, if the lamp is open you won’t obtain the full light intensity. In cold environments it’s best if the A-rated bulb’s socket is pointing downwards.

Try A-rated bulbs before you buy
Would you like to try A-rated bulbs in your workplace before you buy? You can borrow a test briefcase, which contains different A-rated bulbs, from your local electricity supply company.
