How to connect an AutoPowerOff plug bank
It’s easy to connect an AutoPowerOff plug bank, which will start working for you immediately.
Get help to connect an AutoPowerOff plug bank to a computer, inkjet printer, laser printer and docking station.
AutoPowerOff with USB cable for computers
- Plug the computer peripherals into the AutoPowerOff sockets in the same way as you would plug them into an extension plug bank.
- Connect the USB plug attached to the AutoPowerOff into one of the computer's USB ports.
- Plug the AutoPowerOff into an ordinary 230-volt mains socket.
- Plug the computer’s 230-volt power cable into a separate mains socket. If you don't do this you won't be able to power up the computer again because it will be permanently turned off by the AutoPowerOff . A notebook computer's 230-volt power supply can be plugged directly into an AutoPowerOff socket because a notebook can use battery power to start up.
When the computer is switched off, the USB port is closed down. This sends a signal to the AutoPowerOff plug bank to switch off the power to the plugs. A USB AutoPowerOff can be used for computers. The USB cable is connected to the computer, and when the computer is switched off the AutoPowerOff switches off automatically.
Connecting an inkjet printer
Remember to switch off an inkjet printer using the on/off button before turning off he computer. This prevents damage to the print head.
Connecting a laser printer
Read the operating instructions if you want to connect a laser printer. Some printers do not tolerate being switched off at the mains socket before they have cooled down. Therefore use the printer's on/off switch.
AutoPowerOff without USB cable for computers and TVs
- Plug the computer peripherals and devices attached to the TV into the AutoPowerOff sockets in the same way as you would plug them into an extension plug bank.
- Plug the AutoPowerOff into an ordinary 230-volt mains socket.
- Plug the computer or TV's 230-volt power cable into the dedicated, permanently live, master socket on the AutoPowerOff plug bank.
When you turn off the computer or TV, less current is drawn through the master socket. This sends a signal to the AutoPowerOff plug bank to switch off the other sockets. An AutoPowerOff without a USB is a plug bank which can be used for both computers and TVs.
NB!
Many energy efficient notebook computers consume less than, or around 20 watts. These computers can therefore not be used with an AutoPowerOff without a USB. An AutoPowerOff switches off when the power level falls below 20 watts and switches on again when the power is over 20 watts. This means that a low energy notebook can switch on and off while it is in use.
AutoPowerOff for docking station
AutoPowerOff plug banks both with and without USB can be used with docking stations. Follow the same procedure as above.
Please note!
When using an AutoPowerOff with a USB, be sure to plug the docking station's 230-volt mains plug into a separate mains socket. A docking station supplies a notebook computer with power – not the other way round. No current will flow to the USB port if the docking station's 230-volt mains plug is plugged into the AutoPowerOff.
