About the Energy Saving Label

The Danish Electricity Saving Trust launched its Energy Saving Label in Autumn 2006. The label helps consumers to choose energy efficient products.

Energy Saving Labelled products
The Energy Saving Label underpins and strengthens the Trust’s partnership with producers and retailers by recommending and marketing energy efficient products. The label replaces all the Trust’s previous campaign labels and logos.

GoEnergi_MARK_RGB.pngThe Energy Saving Label is based on a voluntary scheme which should be used and developed in partnership with the respective trade organisations.

The label is supplied free of charge to producers, suppliers and retailers wishing to use it in connection with their marketing of energy saving products.

The label is administered by an Energy Saving Label Secretariat.

Requirements
The label can be used on products which conform to current or agreed labelling schemes on energy requirements, including any supplementary quality requirements. The criteria have been laid down on the basis of international labelling schemes and are based on objective standards. Where no international criteria exist, the Trust has developed these in partnership with the relevant Danish trade organisations.

The requirements have been established so that the Energy Saving Label will be used on Denmark's top 20% most energy efficient products within a given product category on the market. The Trust’s labelling scheme is a dynamic programme, and in this connection the Trust reserves the right to amend the requirements for individual product categories in relation to market developments.

Products covered
At the start of 2008 the Trust’s labelling scheme covered the following product categories:

  • A-rated energy saving bulb
  • air to air heat pump
  • Central heating circulator pumps
  • Computers
  • Computer monitors
  • Copiers printers and scanners
  • Digital decoders
  • Energy saving equipment
  • External power supplies
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Professional fridges and freezers
  • Tumble dryers
  • Washing machines
  • Wireless devices

In due course, other product categories will be added to the scheme, including TV equipment, set-top boxes, consumer electronics, etc.

Random testing
To ensure the credibility of the Energy Saving Label, the Trust carries out ongoing random testing both at a product level and in the stores where the label is displayed.

The Trust markets the Energy Saving Label in the media and explicitly refers to recommended products on its website.

Recommended retailers
By shopping at recommended retailers, consumers are guaranteed that the retailers only stock the Trust’s recommended products within a given product category.

Companies wishing to become a recommended retailer must conclude a voluntary agreement with the Trust confirming that they will only stock and sell products (e.g.A-rated energy saving bulbs) recommended by the Trust.

The recommended retailer concept has been developed by the Trust in association with the Danish retail trade.
