Consumers are price and climate conscious

Dansk Supermarked, which owns Denmark's Fotex and Bilka chains and online store www.bilka.dk, is only stocking the most energy efficient digital decoders (set-top boxes) on its shelves – all sold at prices of less than 70 Euros. In return the Danish Electricity Saving Trust has endorsed the supermarket group by including it on its list of recommended retailers.

8 of 10 consumers ask about eco-friendly products
According to research by SES Sirius earlier in 2009, more than 1 in 2 consumers think about price first when choosing a digital decoder, which will prevent their TVs going blank when analogue TV transmissions stop on 31 October. But a new survey by the National Consumer Agency also reveals that consumers are increasingly asking about eco-friendly products. Almost 8 out of 10 consumers think about the climate and environment on a day-to-day basis.

"We are finding that consumers are very interested in eco-friendly products. On the other hand, they're not prepared to pay more for green products. So the optimum situation is for prices and eco-awareness to go hand in hand," says Christian Toft, Product Manager at Dansk Supermarked.

Only selling eco-friendly digital decoders
Dansk Supermarked's Fotex and Bilka chains and online store www.bilka.dk studied both reports before signing an agreement with the Trust. This commits the group to selling only the most energy efficient and eco-friendly digital decoders displaying the Energy Saving Label . The agreement was made in the interests of both consumers and the climate.

The Trust gives supermarket chain its seal of approval
The Trust is endorsing Dansk Supermarked as a recommended retailer of digital decoders because the group is only selling products displaying the Energy Saving Label.

"Dansk Supermarked is one of Denmark's biggest sellers of TVs, so consumers are doing both themselves and the climate an enormous favour by choosing a digital decoder from Bilka or Fotex. This will not only minimise the cost on consumers' electricity bills, but will also lead to the smallest possible impact on the climate," says Anders Hjorth Jensen, Project Manager at the Trust.

Find eco-friendly digital decoders
The Trust's website is the place to find the most energy efficient digital decoders displaying the Energy Saving Label. But if you buy your decoder in Fotex, Bilka and online at www.bilka.dk  then you can be sure of getting a model recommended by the Trust displaying the Trust's Energy Saving Label.
