Know your energy consumption so you can manage it more easily
The Trust’s benchmark for sensible energy consumption is 1,000 kWh per person per year. Anybody can achieve this.
What is your consumption?
If you don’t know your annual consumption then check your next electricity bill to see how many kWh you have used. If you get a quarterly bill, you should multiply the figure by 4 to arrive at the annual total. Remember that most people’s bills are smaller in the summer.
What is your target?
On average Danes use 1,500 kWh per person per year. The Trust’s benchmark for sensible energy consumption is 1,000 kWh per person per year.
This figure can be difficult to achieve if you live alone because of the base consumption of the fridge and TV for example. The benchmark for people living alone is therefore 1,500 kWh per year.
You can check how your electricity consumption compares with other Danish households on the My E-Home test page. Input your address, the number of persons in your household and your electricity consumption. We'll tell you whether your consumption is higher or lower than other consumers like you.
Take the temperature of your electricity bill here.
A typical Dane using 1,500 kWh per year can save EUR 134 every year by reducing his or her consumption to the 1,000 kWh benchmark.
How can you achieve the target?
- Buy appliances and bulbs which use as little power as possible – look for the Trust’s Energy Saving Label and the European Energy Label (A-G).
- Switch off lamps and appliances after use.
Where do you use your electricity?
If you are curious to discover which parts of your home are using more electricity, use a meter to find out.
