Manage your energy consumption with manual or automated monitoring
Experience shows that you automatically become more proactive about saving if you keep an eye on your energy consumption. You can do this in a number of ways.
Manual or automated monitoring
You can either read the meter regularly yourself, or you can arrange to have remote metering.
Remote meter reading is for all
Everyone can have their meter read remotely and can then keep track of their energy consumption online. When you have remote reading you pay for your actual electricity consumption and not on account.
Know your base consumption
Base consumption is the constant consumption which goes on in your home, whether or not anyone is actually at home. This is caused by appliances on standby and appliances that run continually, such as the fridge and freezer for example.
Base consumption is typically 0.05-0.2 kWh per hour. Base consumption of 0.2 kWh per hour costs around EUR 200 per year.
If your base consumption is higher than this, have a look to see how many appliances are on standby. Alternatively, consider whether it is time to replace your old fridge.
Know how much energy your appliances use
Use an electricity meter if you would like to know where your electricity goes. This should be placed between the appliance and the plug and tells you exactly how much power the appliance is using. If you want to measure the standby consumption you should choose a precise meter such as the SparOmeter.
Klub1000 can help you to manage your readings
As a member of Klub1000 (only in Danish) you can input your readings whenever you like and you will get an estimate of your annual electricity consumption based on your latest reading. This way you will always be able to keep track of your electricity consumption.
