Energy labelling
Energy labels can be used as a guide for those who want electrical appliances with low energy consumption. The Trust has its own label, the Energy Saving Label, but you will also find other labels in Denmark.
EU energy labelling scheme (A-G)
The EU has a mandatory energy labelling scheme covering large appliances and electric light bulbs. The label indicates how energy efficient a device is based on a scale from A to G.
A-labelled appliances have the lowest energy consumption within an individual product group. There is also an A+ and A++ category for fridges and freezers, where A++ is the most energy efficient. Only A-labelled appliances qualify to use the Energy Saving Label, with only A+ and A++ fridges and freezers qualifying in their category.
Benefitting both the environment and your purse
Energy labels on large appliances tell you about an appliance’s energy consumption and other factors such as water consumption and wash class. This way, you can choose an appliance with low energy consumption, which is cheap to run. You can therefore save money as well as helping the environment.
In Denmark, the Danish Energy Agency is responsible for checking that energy labels are used correctly.
Products which must display the EU energy label:
- Fridges and freezers
- Dishwashers
- Washing machines
- Tumble dryers
- Washer dryers
- Electric light bulbs
- Electric ovens
- Air conditioners for household use
Energy Star
Energy Star is a voluntary energy labelling scheme which can be used on the most energy efficient IT and computer equipment such as computers, computer monitors, printers and copiers.
These products have low energy consumption both when in use and on standby. To qualify for the Energy Star label, a product must also automatically switch to a low power state or switch off completely when not in use.
The scheme is administered by the EU and the United Sates Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Flower and Swan
Flower and Swan are the European and Nordic Ecolabels. They are recognised by the Danish authorities and are subject to impartial monitoring.
The 2 Ecolabels guarantee that the products:
- place the least strain on the environment for this type of product
- are at least as good as other products of the same type
- do not contain materials that are harmful to your health.
Both Flower and Swan have laid down energy efficiency requirements for all power consuming products.
