Check whether bulbs are compatible with light dimmers

Only a few A-rated energy saving bulbs can be dimmed. Before you buy a bulb check whether it is compatible with your existing light dimmer. Unfortunately, tests have shown that so-called dimmable A-rated bulbs are not always compatible with an external light dimmer, even though they should be.

A-rated energy saving bulbs with a light dimmer built into the bulb itself are available. One type can be dimmed with a remote controller. There's also another type which can be dimmed by a touch sequence on an ordinary light switch.

Halogen bulbs with light dimmers
Energy saving halogen bulbs are definite alternatives to your old light dimmer set-up. Halogens can easily be dimmed using ordinary light dimmers in the same way as incandescents. Halogen bulbs are not quite as efficient as A-rated energy saving bulbs, but they save around 30%  of the power compared with incandescents.
