A-rated energy saving bulbs can be used in most places around the home
You can use A-rated energy saving bulbs in most places around the home. You should only keep your tungsten filament bulbs or any halogen spots in places where you need particularly good colour rendering. For example, this could be above the bathroom mirror or over the dining table.
A-rated bulbs come in different shapes and sizes
You can get oblong energy saving bulbs or round versions with a mantle that looks like ordinary tungsten filament bulbs. Base your decision on whether or not you can see the bulb when it sits in the light.
A-rated bulbs can be used everywhere outdoors
A-rated bulbs are the natural choice for outdoor lamps: in carports, driveways, along paths, by the front door, and on the patio. These places are also suitable for LEDs.
A-rated bulbs affected by frost
When the temperature falls below freezing, it can take a little time before A-rated energy saving bulbs light up. Also, the light output that you get from an energy saving bulb depends on the type of lamp into which the bulb is fitted. There are rarely problems if the lamp is fully enclosed. On the other hand, if the lamp is open and not completely enclosed then you won’t obtain the full light intensity. In cold environments it’s best if the A-rated bulb’s socket is pointing downwards.
