Product overview
Monitors (only in Danish)
Lifetime of a monitor – what does it cost?
When you buy a monitor, the cost of running it is reflected in your electricity bill over the period in which you own and use the computer. We call this the monitor’s lifetime costs, i.e. the total cost of using it. We have set the lifetime to 6 years.
If you add the purchase price and the lifetime costs together, you find out what the product really costs. See the lifetime costs on the list of recommended monitors.
Lifetime costs depend on:
- On, sleep and standby. The time the computer spends in each of these different modes.
- Lifetime. How many years you expect to have the computer.
- Electricity price. The Trust bases its calculations on a standard price, but you can also input your own figures
Sample calculation for replacing your monitor
The calculator gives you a precise idea of how much you can save when replacing your monitor with a more energy efficient model. Here is a sample calculation.
| On | Sleep | Standby | Consumption | |
| Current equipment: | ||||
| Non energy efficient 17″ CRT monitor |
100 watts | 8 watts | 4 watts | 135 kWh/year equivalent to EUR 270.00 /year |
| New equipment: | ||||
| Energy efficient 17″ flat screen | 30 watts | 0,9 watt | 0 watt | 31 kWh/år equivalent to EUR 62.00 /year |
| Annual savings: | |
| Savings on electricity bill: | 104 kWh/year equivalent to EUR 208.00 /year |
| Total saving: | 77 % |
| Savings in lifetime costs: | |
| Costs over 6 years based on continuing to run the existing equipment: | EUR 218.70 |
| Costs over 6 years based on energy efficient flat screen: | EUR 50.22 |
| Total saving: | EUR 168.48 |
| The following assumptions have been factored into the calculation above: | |
| Time on | 1,032 hours |
| Time sleep | 234 hours |
| Standby time | 7,494 hours |
| Computer lifetime | 5 years |
| Monitor lifetime | 6 years |
