Fact and figures about energy efficient computers

Computers with the Energy Saving Label are often much more technologically advanced than other products. The amount of electricity used is kept down by the better power supply and energy saving components.

Efficient power supplies waste less
Many power supply units waste 30-40% of the power during the process of transforming the mains 230 volt to the current used by the computer. The most efficient power supplies waste half as much power as the least efficient. This means that the amount of electricity used can be reduced by up to 20-25%.

Efficient power supplies also consume less standby power when the processor or monitor are turned off. Inefficient power supplies can waste as much as EUR 10 worth of power per year, as opposed to the most efficient which use under EUR 0.70.

Extended battery life for notebooks results in savings
Notebooks are designed to work for long periods of time on battery power. These efficient processors deliver excellent performance per watt of power used, and can increase or decrease their output depending on the demands placed on them.

When plugged into the mains, notebooks often consume under half the power used by desktop computers.

Computers of the future
Producers are working to make their competencies more efficient; not simply to save power but also to solve the problem of the heat produced by higher power consumption.

The new processors deliver a lot more output per watt of power used, and match the output to requirements.
