Avoid using climatization or air-conditioning systems to cool a building

Climatization and air-conditioning systems use large amounts of power, so you should consider other methods, wherever possible, to cool your house in the most environmentally friendly way.

The energy efficient way to a cool home

  1. Choose your temperature
Start by deciding the temperature that suits you. Then set the thermostatic valves to the required temperature. This prevents the radiators from heating up the room unnecessarily.
  2. Shield from the sun
Draw the curtains and lower the blinds if you want to prevent your house from becoming unnecessarily warm on sunny days.
  3. Switch off electrical appliances
Electrical appliances such as TVs, computers and printers produce a considerable amount of heat when they are switched on. This is why they should be switched off when not in use.
  4. Use a ceiling fan
A ceiling fan is one way of making a room feel cooler. However, you should restrict its use as much as possible because a fan still uses quite a lot of power.
