Facts about oil
If you use 15,000 kWh of electricity per year to heat your house, a power station will discharge around 7,500 kg of CO2.
Oil is more environmentally friendly than electric heating
If you use 15,000 kWh of electricity per year to heat your house, your carbon footprint will be about 7,500 kg of CO2.
By switching to oil you will reduce this amount by 60% to about 5,200 kg of CO2, which benefits the environment.
Danish oil production
Denmark expects to be self sufficient in oil until 2015 or possibly 2025. At the start of 2005, there were nearly 50 platforms in the Danish sector of the North Sea, with oil production coming from 19 North Sea oil fields.
Regulations for oil storage tanks
You should check the regulations before installing an oil storage tank. Alternatively, you should contact the technical services department of your local municipal authority.
In Denmark, an oil tank must conform to the regulations covering the installation and use of an oil tank and associated pipework systems, per the Danish statutory order no. 829 of 14/06/2007 (in Danish).
Some of the most important requirements are that:
- AJVA plastic tanks buried underground should be scrubbed out no later than 20 years after being buried, per the Danish statutory order no. 96 of 5/3/1987 (in Danish).
- Tanks that have been used in the past must be re-tested before the municipal authority can approve them.
- All tank installations must be equipped with a single strand pipe system.
- All tanks located above ground must be fitted with an over-filling alarm.
