Improve your insulation

It’s important to check that your insulation is working properly. Read how to ensure that you have efficient insulation.

Check your existing insulation
Check that your insulation is laid nice and evenly and fits snugly against the rafters and beams. Re-lay poorly fitting insulation and consider additional insulation.

Greatest gain from ceiling insulation
Additional insulation is often a good investment which quickly pays for itself. For example, if you add 145 mm of insulation to existing insulation of 100 mm in a 130 m2 house, ending up with a total of 245 mm, you will recoup your investment in just over 2 years. Insulating to depths over 300 mm does not produce much extra savings in your heating bill.

Try the Trust’s quick calculator (only in Danish) and see how much you can save by fitting extra insulation.

Check cavity walls
Check that the insulation material has not collapsed down on itself, leaving large un-insulated sections. Contact an authorised energy consultant who can check the cavity walls. The insulation is checked by drilling through the wall and looking inside the cavity with a small telescope or by taking a thermo image of the outer wall.

Insulating the cavity wall
Insulating the cavity wall is easy, cheap and efficient. The insulation is blown into the cavity from either inside or outside the house.

Insulating pipes and valves
Hot surfaces on pipework and valves should be insulated to prevent unnecessary heat loss.

Energy labelled house
If you have an energy labelled house, an energy plan can help you improve your house so you use even less energy.
