On/Off timers can help eliminate standby consumption
Fit a simple On/Off timer and save standby power when you are not using your appliances, for example, during the night.
Only switch on appliances as required
A lot of appliances and equipment are only ever used at particular times. Using an On/off timer means you don’t have to bother about switching your devices on and off, and in many situations you’ll avoid unnecessary standby consumption.
On/Off timers are particularly suitable for areas which you use at specific times of day such as the garage, entrance hall and in the garden.
Appliances which can be used with On/Off timers include:
- Devices with a power supply
- Routers
- Audio systems
- Aquariums
- Ventilation systems
- Outdoor lighting
Many people also use On/Off timers to deter burglars because they can be programmed to switch the lights on and off in the lounge or other rooms, making it look as if you are at home when you are out or away on holiday.
AutoPowerOff plug banks can also help you to switch off devices
If you have a DVD, set top box (digital decoder) or other equipment connected to the TV, you could also consider fitting an AutoPowerOff plug bank which switches everything off when you turn off the TV.
You can also use an AutoPowerOff plug bank with your computer to turn off peripherals such as a printer and network equipment.
