Energy consumption, savings and safety requirements for energy saving equipment

The product overview of energy saving equipment is the place to find products recommended by the Trust which are allowed to use the Energy Saving Label.

Requirements for energy saving equipment
More and more products are coming onto the market which are being marketed as 'energy saving equipment'. Because quality can vary a lot, the Trust has laid down requirements which must be fulfilled by the equipment.

The Trust assesses whether a product is worthy of recommendation. At present, we lay down requirements for energy saving equipment generally, but also for specific product groups such as electricity meters and AutoPowerOff plug banks.

In order to qualify for the Energy Saving Label energy saving equipment should comply with Trust’s requirements. Producers should submit 3 examples of their product together with documentation showing that the energy saving equipment meets the requirements, including:

  • A calculation of the potential savings when using the equipment
  • Documentation detailing the equipment’s consumption
  • Documentation showing that the equipment is technically safe to use

Ongoing quality control
The Trust carries out random tests to check that recommended energy saving equipment conforms to the criteria. Energy saving equipment is tested by the Danish Technological Institute and Hauxner consulting. If the results show that energy saving equipment does not fulfil the requirements it is removed from the list and the test results publicised.
