Buying washing machines and tumble dryers
The Energy Saving Label confirms that you are getting the most energy efficient machine.
Choose carefully when buying a new washing machine or tumble dryer
- Go for AAA-labelled washing machines with the Energy Saving Label. Find them on our product overviews for washing machines (choose between front loading and top loading models).
- Choose A-labelled tumble dryers. These use nearly 25% less power than C-labelled versions. Tumble dryers are not covered by the Trust's Energy Saving Label scheme.
Washer dryers
Washer dryers use slightly more energy than separate machines. The dryer unit in a washer dryer is often smaller than the one found in a dedicated dryer, so you may need to tumble dry clothes twice. Also, the built-in dryer unit is a condenser type which means that the machine uses slightly more energy than a vented tumble dryer in the same class.
